The past few weeks, my internet response has been running quite slow. I'm sorta used to this, since in my area the only service available other than dial-up is satellite. And as you would probably know, with satellite service, the average ping is ms. So I do not like extraneous crap going to the internet. Remember- Windows was just booted, and " update from more than one place" is turned OFF. No 3rd party apps.
And "Update Status" is up to date. So what is the following Netstat nonsense? I ran a malwarebytes scan, and it turned up nothing. TCP Who is this Akamai and how did they get invoked on my system? Does Microsoft use them to collect info? And how can I turn them off? Was this reply helpful?
Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. Thanks for your feedback. So, am I one of these two million servers? A zombie? Oh wait- just one hop away from one! Microsoft Insider Preview? Alas, I do have a modicum of "skills to search the internet" and indeed did so. However, I am still puzzled. But your insightful reply has prompted me to seek further, and see if it is at all possible.
You seem to think otherwise. Why am I reminded of that old Apple Fanboi insult "Microserf"? Since I don't see all this port access on windows xp, vista and 7 nor on my linux boxes and they work a lot better than Windows 10 on laptops older than 15yrs, then I don't buy Akamai is improving things.
Everytime Microsoft release a new OS it take about 2 service packs to fix what engineers and managers should have caught before the release. I have moved to Mac at work and I am gradually moving to Linux at home. If I could move back my current laptop to windows 7 I would. But it came with windows 8. My browsers is not faster and downloading a 30Mg file now takes 10min.
I personally don't like when I don't have option to disable things. I put some of the ip addresses in my firewall and windows stopped working. Try it for yourself. It's not a matter of "improving things" : without the Akamai network in place, ,, Win10 installations yammering away would have squashed Microsoft's servers, flat. But it isn't your system's OS deciding to connect through Akamai. If you connected to those Microsoft IP's through a Linux distro or a Mac, they'd still go through the cacheing service, and if you go looking for cat videos, you probably won't be, on any system.
There are third-party programs that will shut Win10 telemetry down solid, however poking around for more Settings to unset, and checking your Startups for third-party updaters would also be prudent. There's also a good side to telemetry, particularly if - like some posters - your goal is to 'stick it' to Microsoft. Telemetry is how Microsoft finds out that Microsoft Edge isn't your default browser and Bing isn't your default search engine and you aren't using the default apps or your Microsoft account or Windows Store.
This is sure to hurt Microsoft's feelings more than irrational posts in a community forum. Choose where you want to search below Search Search the Community. In reply to A. User's post on November 13, In reply to deleted message. Thank you for your extremely thoughtful and helpful reply. In reply to aqking's post on November 25, Akamai runs what's probably the world's largest set of caching servers. It wouldn't be malicious in itself.
